City of Smyrna
The City of Smyrna continues to be an attractive place to live for a variety of people. Young, cosmopolitan adults, baby boomers and families continue to be attracted to Smyrna’s mix of walk ability, location and access to amenities. In fact, Smyrna has a younger and more educated population than the nation or the Atlanta MSA. The percentage of residents who are college graduates is almost 10 percentage points higher than the Atlanta MSA.
Smyrna’s attractiveness is reflective in the amount and type of growth that it has experienced since 2000. There has been a 67 percent increase in the value of the median sales prices for all homes since 2000. Median sales values for existing homes have increased at an even greater rate than new home values (76% versus 62%). This is just one indicator that as new homes have been built, the area has continued to become more attractive in a general sense, not just for people looking for new construction.
